Highland Broadband are excited to bring the future of broadband to the Highlands region, rolling out ultrafast full-fibre broadband from October 2022.

This cost-effective and reliable fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) service will mean that 5,000 premises across the region will gain access to broadband speeds that are unrivalled in the area.

This week, you’ll see our friendly and expert engineering teams as they hit the streets of Alness before expanding outwards to include the towns of Evanton and Invergordon. They’ll also be extending northwards to include Ardross as well as a number of smaller villages along the way.

Highland Broadband is being brought to the area by Lothian Broadband Networks (LBN), a company who have already successfully bridged the digital divide between villages, towns and cities in East and Midlothian.

Gavin Rodgers, CEO of LBN says,

“We are hugely excited to be bringing full-fibre connectivity to the Highlands; already having a Fixed Wireless Access business in the Highlands means we know firsthand the difference that this move will make to the communities within this region. We are especially grateful for the support from BDUK who have supported us in our plans to bring ultrafast connectivity to an area of Scotland where only 0.14% of homes currently have access to a gigabit service.”

Residents and businesses in Alness will be the first to be connected to this top-of-the-range broadband service that promises ultrafast and reliable internet speeds direct to their premises. This will support families and businesses to work online more effectively and has the capability to run more internet-based devices than ever, without frustrating lagging or buffering issues.

Jamie Stone, MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, said:

“I am delighted to have supported LBN’s plans to bring gigabit connectivity to Easter Ross. Improving broadband connectivity in the Highlands at pace is absolutely key to our success as a region, and I look forward to the day that every household and business in my constituency can access superfast speeds. This is an excellent start.”

How is full-fibre broadband different from the broadband you currently have in the area?

Full-fibre Broadband is the latest in fibre technology where a fibre optic line is laid in the ground directly and runs straight to the premises, without relying on the quality of other cabling going into the property or fixed wireless access internet. This means you get ultrafast upload and download speeds, as well as reliable internet which is capable of running all the internet-based devices you’ll find in a modern home or business.

I’m currently locked into a contract with another provider. Can I switch to you?

Thanks to the Gigabit Voucher Scheme , you won’t have to pay anything towards the installation costs. You can find out more about this scheme here.

Put simply, the Government is supplying vouchers to cover the installation costs of full-fibre broadband for people in rural areas who currently experience slow broadband speeds.
